Milk Boosting Chocolate Lactation Smoothie

Lactation Smoothies

During those early days (and nights) of motherhood, establishing a breast milk supply that meets your babies needs can be challenging, even for the most seasoned mothers. This is where lactation boosting foods and drinks made from simple, healthy ingredients can assist. For breastfeeding mama’s out there looking for ways to increase your breast milk supply naturally, we have a delicious Milk Boosting Chocolate Lactation Smoothie for you!

Milk Boosting Foods

If you have ever wondered what common foods are great for boosting your breastmilk here’s just a few:

  • oats
  • almonds
  • flaxseeds
  • sesame seeds
  • carrots
  • leafy green vegetables

On their own, these foods taste okay but let’s face it, busy mums want meals to be super quick, tasty and easy to prepare otherwise it’s just not going to happen! Especially in those tiring newborn months when as soon as mum sits down to eat a well-deserved meal, bub always seems to wake up! This is where smoothies can really save the day!

Smoothies are simple to prepare in advance and can be kept in the fridge ready for when needed. They are also a fantastic way to combine some of these healthy, milk boosting foods with other sweeter natural add-ins such as fruit, dates and honey, making for the perfect go to drink for breastfeeding mums that is nourishing and so yummy!

Lactation Smoothie Recipe

Harry Hoot - Recipe - Milk Boosting Chocolate Lactation Smoothie

Harry Hoot’s Milk Boosting Chocolate Lactation Smoothie is the perfect lactation smoothie for a healthy breakfast on the run that will give your milk supply an added boost.

Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana, frozen & broken into chunks
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 1/3 cup oats, rolled or quick
  • 2 tbsp plain yohgurt (look for low sugar options)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp 100% raw cacao powder (or use cocoa for a sweeter option)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp brewer’s yeast
  • 1 tbsp flaxseeds, or flaxseed meal

Method:

  1. Add dry ingredients into blender and pulse until roughly ground.
  2. Add wet ingredients and blend for approximately 30 seconds, stopping the blender to scrape the sides as required.

Tips:

  • To freeze banana – peel a ripe banana, then seal banana in a freeze-safe, zip-lock bag and leave in freezer for an hour or until firm.
  • If you don’t have time to freeze a banana beforehand, a fresh ripe banana can still be used, however the consistency won’t be as thick. You can add a handful of ice to help thicken.
  • You can find brewer’s yeast at your local health food store or online specialty store.
